Vale – Tom Lister Jr

American actor and former professional wrestler Tom “Tiny” Lister Jr has passed away.

Lister was best known for his acting roles in 1995’s cult classic Friday and its sequel, Next Friday (2000), as well as President Lindenberg in Lux Besson’s 1997 sci-fi classic The Fifth Element.

On screen, Lister was a constant bit-part performer, appearing early on in his career as a security guard in Runaway Train, and moved through various supporting roles in action-oriented films such as Beverley Hills Cop II, Universal Soldier, Immortal Combat, Pamela Anderson’s Barb Wire, and Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. He appeared alongside Adam Sandler in Little Nicky, had a minor cameo in Austin Powers: Goldmember, and played a thug in the 2008 comic book movie The Dark Knight. Notable later roles include a small role in The Human Centipede 3, a voice part in Disney’s Zootopia, and as himself in Saturday Morning Rapture.

  1. Lister’s physical presence always transcended the screen. I remember him terrifying me as the bully in the film Friday – I saw that one when I was a teenager.

I also saw Barb Wire as a teenager – for very different reasons!

I can’t remember who he plays in Beverly Hills Cop 2 at the moment (I’m frantically moving through the film in my head!).
