Vale – Bea Arthur

I always used to watch The Golden Girls growing up. They were, and probably still are, the funniest group of sexually active post-menopausal women getting about the TV. It’s sad to hear news out of Hollywood today, that Bea Arthur, one of the Golden Girls, has passed away. While Bea was never known for her film work (as far as I could ascertain, she never appeared in any films) she did have a great TV and theatre career, and it’s always sad to hear that one of your childhood memories has moved on.

So, today I pause, reflect a little and remember one of the great sitcom shows of the 80’s, and think about Bea Arthur, her feisty mother and fellow housemates, Betty White and Rue McClanahan.

Normally detesting these kinds of bios, Rodney's keen love of film more often outclasses his ability to write convincingly about them. Never blessed with a body worthy of a porn star, nor being the heir to a wealthy industrialists fortune, nor suffering the tragedy of having his parents murdered outside a Gotham theater, Rodney is, contrary to popular opinion, neither Ron Jeremy, JD Rockefeller, or Batman. As a serious appreciator of film since 1996, Rodney's love affair with the medium has continued with his online blog, Fernby Films, a facility allowing him to communicate with fellow cineasts in their mutual love of all things movie.
