Trailer Trash – Star Wars VII + Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

Trailer-Trash-Star-Wars-+-Superman-Batman

What a week! First, our latest look at the upcoming Star Wars film arrived, courtesy of a massive franchise convention, and the expected hooplah that entailed. To say the last 48 hours has been massive is…. well, a massive understatement.

The Force Awakens rises from its slumber in December, but here’s our first decent, non-teasery look at what JJ Abrams and Lucasfilm have concocted.

Then, yesterday, all hell broke loose when a dodgy phone-cam copy of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer leaked online. The trailer was due to come out Monday in IMAX format, but with the leak came Warner Bros decision to say “F@ck it, let’s get it out there properly”, and thus, we have our first proper look at Batman and Superman (but, tellingly, not Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman) in the new film, due out next year.

Let us know what you think of both, in the comments below!!

  1. BvS looks stupid. Ben Affleck looks constipated as Bruce Wayne. I did think Batman's armored suit looked cool, but I can't imagine how it holds up against Superman's ridiculous strength. I do like Cavill as Superman, though. If only they had Christian Bale in there, and a different director, I would be excited about this movie.

Star Wars looks OK. I didn't cry like a lot of fanboys, because it's a fucking movie. 50% of Star Wars movies are good, and 50% of them are bad. And it hasn't really been that long. There is no need to cry. The movie looks like it has promise, though. I liked the shot of the ruined Vader helmet.

    1. Ha ha, I'm ambivalent to BvS too, I must admit. I've seen nothing here that will make me think this might be better or worse than Man Of Steel. The desaturated look of these films is starting to grate on me badly (seriously, can't the sun ever come up in these frickin' movies?) and I'm less enthralled by Snyder's vision for the franchise than I was when I heard he was making MoS. Affleck? Yeah, I'm holding my opinion until I see him in the role. I famously told a friend that I thought Christian Bale was the wrong choice for Batman way back when, and I totally had to eat crow for years on that.

I'm a big fan of Star Wars (not a total obsessive, like many crying imbeciles online are, I think) and am genuinely excited for this (certainly knowing they won't touch the same thematic material as Lucas did in those f@cking awful prequel movies) and am expecting nothing less than a fun thrill ride. Forget the politics of the Empire and the Rebellion, forget the Force's sciency explanation, just bring be f@cking spaceship fights, adventure, and plenty of grand old thrills.

Ditto on Vader's helmet, I thought that was a nice touch. If that's all we see of the previous six films in this one as far as Vader's "presence" in this movie, I'll be happy.

    1. Ha ha, yeah me too Dan. Seeing Ford (who actually looks interested in this film for a change) and Chewie together again was the best part of this whole trailer. 🙂 🙂

  2. I didn't watch the Star Wars one, and I'm going to do my best to avoid it. I just want to see the movie. I didn't see no trailers about Star Wars when I was a kid and it was AMAZING. Hoping to recapture that magic. And yes, in regards to your earlier post, the over-promotion these days is just ridiculous. Especially on these big movies that everyone is going to see anyway. I did see a couple of images of Han & Chewie and the downed Star Destroyer, and they look pretty great.

I did watch the Supes v Batboy trailer because I still need to be sold on it. I can't say that I'm all that interested in it so far. The Bat armor looks fun, but I wonder why he wouldn't have mouth armor. Superman can probably rip the whole tin can apart, but why give him an opening? I also like that they added more color to the Superman outfit. Looks better. A lot of the CG looks really soft and FAKE though. Like that shot of Supes lifting that whatever it was.

    1. The SW trailer shits all over BvS to be honest, I don't think WB know how to market their films properly. Especially considering the way Snyder is making these films all dark 'n mopey. I love the batsuit (not the armor one, the other one) and think that's about the coolest part of the trailer. Otherwise, the trailer is just too dark and depressing to make me excited to go see it. Intrigued, yes. Excited…. no.
