Our 10-part series, Landmark Films Of The 20th Century, sees us select the 100 most influential films between 1900 and 1999 – that’s 100 years of films to trawl through and select those that gave us something new or different.
Our mission: to select 1 film representative of the biggest cinematic landmark of each year. It needn’t be the “best” film of the year, or even the most popular/successful, but each film selected needed to meet a criteria of being suitably iconic for what it brought to the medium. Be it visual effects, music, sound, story, widescreen photography or the latest 3D whizz-bang tomfoolery; each film in the selected year represents some kind of milestone or landmark in the cinematic medium.
Below you’ll find links to our posts covering a specific decade. Within, you’ll find our selected films, as well as other notable events, films and technological advancements of the years included. Naturally, you’ll likely disagree with some of our selections. That’s okay, we have a comments section for you to unleash your fury upon us. Feel free to do just that. Or, alternatively, come up with your own list for comparison!
