Most people alive today will recognise Gibson from his roles in the TV show <em>Boston Legal<\/em>, and as the vile Illinois Nazi Party Leader in <em>The Blues Brothers<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gibson was born James Bateman, in Pennsylvania, and began acting aged 7. He starred alongside Jerry Lewis in the original <em>Nutty Professor<\/em>, and his career went from there. He also starred in a number of Robert Altman films, including<em> Nashville<\/em>, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_9544\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9544\" style=\"width: 261px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9544\" title=\"henry-gibson\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/henry-gibson.jpg\" alt=\"Gibson as the leader of the Illionois Nazis in The Blues Brothers\" width=\"261\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/henry-gibson.jpg 261w, https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/henry-gibson-250x300.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 261px) 100vw, 261px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9544\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gibson as the leader of the Illionois Nazis in The Blues Brothers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gibsons biggest claim to fame was his character roles, namely as the Illinois Nazi in <em>Blues Brothers<\/em>, and as the central villain in the Tom Hanks starrer <em>The &#8216;Burbs<\/em>; and for a while he even appeared on The Dick Van Dyke show. As well as <em>Gremlins 2<\/em>, <em>InnerSpace<\/em>, and <em>Bio Dome<\/em>, he appeared most recently in<em> The Wedding Crashers<\/em>, and <em>Magnolia<\/em>, among others. Animated film freaks will recognise his voice in the original classic <em>Charlotte&#8217;s Web<\/em>, as Wilbur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most people will recognise the face, most definitely, but hardly anybody will recognise the name. His face was more famous than his moniker, and while we will miss his acerbic wit and ability to morph between creepy and clever, Gibson will remain a genuine acting legend around the <em>fernbyfilms.com<\/em> offices. Do yourself a favour, take a gander at <em>The Blues Brothers<\/em> again, and perhaps swing on <em>The Wedding Crashers <\/em>too, to check out Gibsons work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Henry Gibson died after a short battle with cancer.
