American actor John Heard, best known as the father of Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone<\/em>, has passed away.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mr Heard appeared in numerous stage and screen roles, notably alongside Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins in Big<\/em> (1988), Bette Midler in Beaches<\/em> (also 1988) and illegal-boxing flick Gladiator<\/em>, with Cuba Gooding Jr, in 1992. One of his earliest screen roles was that of Charles in 1979’s\u00a0Chilly\u00a0Scenes of Winter<\/em>, as well as leading roles in Cutter’s Way<\/em> (1981) and Cat People<\/em> (1982). In 1990 Heard appeared in his most memorable role, that of Peter McCallister in Home Alone<\/em>, a role he’d reprise in the sequel a few years later; both Home Alone<\/em> films were incredibly successful at the time.<\/p>\n Mr Heard also co-starred in Awakenings<\/em> with Robert DeNiro, Radio Flyer<\/em> and The Pelican Brief<\/em>, and as a fellow teacher in Samuel L Jackson’s 187,\u00a0<\/em>and more recently in The Guardian<\/em> (2006) alongside Kevin Costner, and Runner Runner<\/em> (2006) with Justin Timberlake.<\/p>\n John Heard passed away on July 21st, following minor back surgery. The cause of death was not immediately released.
