McCune, along with fellow Academy Award Winner (and effects \u00fcber-legend) John Dykstra, was responsible for bringing to life many of the weird and wonderful creatures and robots in George Lucas&#8217;s little sci-fi epic <em>Star Wars<\/em>, back in 1977; in particular, some character known as R2 D2. McCune would go on to work on many other sci-fi films, including the<em> Star Trek Motion Picture<\/em> for director Robert Wise, <em>Ghostbusters<\/em>, <em>Speed<\/em>, <em>Spider-Man 2<\/em>, and <em>Thirteen Days<\/em>. Mr McCune passed away from complications of cancer, aged 67.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_15788\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15788\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15788\" title=\"Bill_Erwin_300\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Bill_Erwin_300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Bill_Erwin_300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Bill_Erwin_300-250x300.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15788\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bill Erwin - 1914-2010<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We also wanted to mention the passing of actor Bill Erwin, who also passed away recently. Erwin appeared in a number of John Hughes films during the 80&#8217;s (mainly in cameos), but was best remembered in cinema circles for his roles in <em>Somewhere In Time<\/em>, with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, as well as the Jack Nicholson thriller <em>The Cry Baby Killer<\/em>. His TV credits, however, were quite extensive, with roles in shows as diverse as <em>Mister Ed<\/em> to <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em>. Recent TV appearances included <em>Monk<\/em>, <em>My Name Is Earl<\/em>, and <em>The West Wing<\/em>.
