You're right: it's hardly a challenging or revelatory film in any sense. But if offering a reminder as to how cool these characters are or how whimsical that can be is all this film wanted to do, I think it succeeded superbly.

I like it for all the reasons you give. It's playful, whimsical, or as you say, pleasant. Maybe I was expecting too much, or I'm jaded, but while I enjoyed it quite a bit I also found it too safe, playing it too close to the vest. Instead of giving us anything fresh, it recycled lots of the same gags fans of the show know verbatim. Enjoyable, yes. A nice introduction to The Peanuts gang for youngsters, yes, but still a bit on the forgettable side.
