Yeah, you're right about that; Pacific Rim was the first major blockbuster in ages that didn't wasn't desaturated to hell and back. Good call, my friend! I really did love this film, it was silly, fantastic poppycock, and that's just the way I like 'em!!

Although it did not appear in my top 10, it would probably appear in my top 25 movies of 2013. It was a lot of fun and very exciting to watch, plus I loved the fact it also used so much color, which nowadays seem to be something that is not done as much (a lot of movies look grittier or seem to be based on one specific color if you know what I mean)
My recent post <a href="http://www.myfilmviews.com/2013/12/30/my-filmyear-2013/" rel="nofollow">My Filmyear: 2013</a>

Depth? You wanted depth? You got it, at the end when they're fighting the kaiju at the bottom of the ocean! LOL!!!

Seriously, though, I agree about the miscasting of Burn Gorman - having rewatched the film recently I found myself wondering if he realized that he was in a serious film, not an out-and-out comedy. I still tittered, but I agree, he did seem overworked.

And I'm not that worried about plot holes and riffs of other films when this one is so damn gleeful and entertaining... :)

Good review Rodney, I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I was expecting more from it though...perhaps a bit more depth, perhaps a bit darker thematically. Although I can't argue about the level of creative skill and imagination gone into the creature and robot designs the action sequences did feel like computer games at times. I wasn't fond of the comedy aspects, particularly Burn Gorman who was miscast, misguided and redundant in my opinion. The film was also let down by a few plot holes and some annoying references/rip-offs of other films.
