In reply to Penny V. Orr. Thanks Penny! I wanted to be a fan of J-horror (as you call it) but found that I struggled to get into them as much as I'd like. And yes, I agree, the US remakes have generally been quite poor.

When the American remakes of The Ring and The Grudge struck box office gold in 2002 and 2004, Hollywood took it as a sign that Japanese horror — or more specifically, American remakes of “J-horror” — was the next big thing. Fast-forward to 2008, and every film in the second wave of Asian horror remakes has fallen flat. The Ring 2, The Grudge 2, Pulse, Dark Water, The Eye and even The Messengers (the American debut of The Eye’s Pang Brothers) have all failed either critically or financially — and in most cases, both. Can One Missed Call, based on the 2004 Japanese film of the same name, break the trend? Um, no.

Hahah I pretty much agree with everything you said. This film was pretty terrible.
