I appreciated the fact that he's heading back to acting. Killer Joe, Magic Mike, and another film I can't remember are all departures from his past shtick.

I'm not a McConaughey fan by a long shot but I decided to give this a shot because of the good reviews and it didn't disappoint. I agree w/ your concluding thoughts Rodney, he's no Atticus Finch but I thought the film was decent and quite entertaining. I'm not too crazy about Phillipe as an actor, but I suppose he um, acquitted himself pretty well here.

I have that particular film planned for a review midway through 2012: as a sneak peek, though, I really thought EdTV was excellent, one of Ron Howards better films over the last 15 years or so. And I think it's one of MatCon's best films as well.

What did you think of EdTv, Rodney? I really liked that one. It was a nice precursor to Big Brother which I don't think arrived in the UK until two years after the film's release.

In reply to Matt S.. I think you're right, Matt, McConaughey isn't that bad to watch. Sure, his comedies are nothing great, but the more serious films he's been in (with the exception of Sahara.... that wasn't great at all) have generally been pretty good.

If someone only watched McConaughey in his piece o' crap comedies, they would think he is a terrible actor, surprisingly enough, he's not! lol. He was great in this, I didn't love the movie as a whole, but certainly entertaining!

I hadn't even heard of this film before reading this review. I especially liked McConaughey in A Time To Kill so I think I'll be checking this out as soon as I can. It is nice to see McConaughey doing some serious drama instead of those rubbish throwaway rom-coms.
