If Nicolas Cage had been in this film, it might have been an improvement - that's how turdish this pile of crap was...

Thanks Matt. You know, I can't actually remember why I even rated it with 2 stars... I forget what the 2 stars were for! Then again, this isn't the worst film I've ever seen, so I couldn't give it a zero-star rating otherwise my credibility might go out the window! LOL!!

Yeah, i figured this would be the kind of "bad film" even you would hate, Will. There's "bad" movies, in that D-grade low budget kinda bad, and then there's this kinda bad, with is just shitty bad.

Oh man, what a pile of shit. I had some expectations from the trailer that this would be a fun B-movie, but boy was I wrong and I like bad movies. I couldn't even bring myself to waste time writing a review of it when I saw it, that's how negative my reaction was. It would get the coveted zero stars from me though if I had reviewed it. Just shockingly bad. You said it best, "Jonah Hex is an abomination of a film"

Rory! Man, long time no see! Thanks for coming back from your occupation to give us some wise words - I always look forward to seeing if you agree with my assessment on a film or not, and in this case, we are in cahoots! To pick up on your last point first: everyone in this film should feel shame that it was even released, and although I can appreciate a nervous film studio deciding to pull the pin on a project and simply release it - completed or not - to the general pubic and chalk it up as a bad experiment, I cannot fathom why Jonah Hex went the same way as Steel and Batman & Robin. The potential for this film to rock was enormous, and Hayward managed to completely screw the fanboys over by delivering a film so devoid of direction it's like a car crash involving kittens. I think he tried to deliver a film like Ghost Rider with the flavoring of Wild Wild West and the coherence of the aforementioned Batman & Robin, and I think any studio worth its salt would have pulled the pin on that one.

Hey Rodney --
Been some time since I dropped over for a chat and I hadn't planned on starting with this film, but nevertheless here I am. You've got it all right and that shows your dedication more than anything, finding as much as you did to write about a film that is clearly a tangled mess. I can offer some additional thought in my review of this film on Above The Line and just to add here, yes, this film really was hacked to pieces by the studio. The studio/producers had plenty of time to talk about this film with the director who really did sell them on his plans and ideas - half way into production and something didn't feel right, namely the skyrocketing budget and many, many loose ends. I understand there were some issues between director/actor which also contributed to the studio finally cutting Hayward off at the waste and salvaging what they could to release to theaters in time to make anything they could. That's why it is so short, disjointed, discombobulation and every other such thing. I'm not a fan of the comic either and whether or not it was true to form is irrelevant considering there really is not way this film could be fixed without completely starting over. It's a shame too, I like Brolin. Thanks for sticking in there and giving us the usual Fernby detailed review!
