Wow, that's the first time I've heard somebody say it was poorly executed. I considered it to be extremely well executed for what it was trying to achieve, it's just that the story and lack of genuine emotion from the (admittedly) wooden cast made for a faily ambivalent effort.

Basically all of the above for Sky Captain. Nothing about it resonated with me. There are some visual aspects that look nice, and I like the idea of the film in theory, but I thought it was really poorly executed.

@ Vik - How do you mean cliched, mate? I assume you mean the story somehow?

@ Will - You didn't like Sky Captain? Was it the Paltrow factor, the story, or the visual style: I quite liked the visual style, but felt the story itself lacked.... I don't know, something to make it genuinely exciting.

Sounds good, except for that part about looking like Sky Captain! I hated that movie. Anyway, I'm really pumped to watch this after seeing Thor. I'll probably see it shortly after October ends and I start watching non-horror flicks again.

I did enjoy this one, even if I thought it felt clichéd. I can definitely see why many people like it so much, though.

Thanks Adam - The style of the film is indeed awesome. You're right about the difference between Hemsworth and Evans "filling" the screen, although I think a lot of that could be put down to the different directorial styles (and overall visual aesthetic of the characters) rather than the actors themselves. Johnston made a good decision to refrain from loads of money shots of Evans in costume, and I think that gave the Captain America a more "realistic" vibe, instead of a true "comic book" vibe a la Thor.

Nice review, I liked this movie. I really enjoyed the style of the film. Spot on about this looking like Sky Captain. I think I enjoyed this film a bit more till I saw Hemsworth as Thor and how much charisma he brought to the role. Evans just does not seem to fill the screen in the same way IMO.

Thanks Dan. I think you're in the majority of folks who think Captain America is a good film but offers nothing new, and to a point I guess I can see where you're coming from. I really thought the 1940's look was great too, and the cliffhanger ending was pretty brave to do.... and leaving the romantic subplot unresolved was another thing I think should have been avoided... still......what can you do.

I liked this film, but I just didn't really think there was anything different from this, that many of the other ones haven't already shown me before. Except for the cool 1930's look and that abrupt ending. Those were nice touches. Thanks for the tag Rod! Great review my man!
