Yeah, I've watched this film a few times now trying to decipher the subtext of Jackson's decisions. Honestly, aside from a vacuous afterlife variant (What Dreams May Come did it better) and a "Stranger danger" element, this is a bit of a "meh" film for me too.

I still prefer the book. Yes, Harvey is the guy that everyone sees when they think "stranger danger" and Tucci does it so well. Beyond that, it's just a bit too other worldly to be a cohesive story. Quite a few things from the book that were missing/glossed over but that is to be expected. The significance of the icicle however, is completely lost if you haven't read the book. Meh, it was $7 and I can donate the DVD to a good cause because I won't be watching it again.

Yeah, I expected a Criminal Minds-y kinda film too – this films isn't that, by a long stretch. Jackson tries for human drama mixed with pseudo-religious iconography and it all goes awry towards the end. Let me know your thoughts!

PS: Stanley Tucci is terrific in the film.

The book was a really good read as the blurb gives you what you are jumping into. I have just bought the DVD so we'll see what happens and if it was $7 well spent. Generally I prefer the book, but I will let you know.
