Tomorrow marks the beginning of our November Nightmares Event!! Check it out, y’all!!!

October-29-2013

A very spooky Halloween to you all!!!

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a very special event here at Fernby Films!! Finally, after months of teasing and hinting, we kick off our November Nightmares event – celebrating all things horror. We’ve had a look at some of the must-watch and must-avoid horror films, from the recent past to the not-so-recent past, and during November we’re gonna evaluate them for you. Every review during November will be a horror film of some description, although not always bloody and gruesome, yet still within the genre’s boundaries; our regular reviews will return in December, after the carnage of the next 30 days!!

In what was pure coincidence, and complete serendipity, our first review in the November Nightmares series is officially our 666th review – the Devil’s Number, if you believe in that sort of thing – and it seemed like a great way to kick off this event. That review comes up tomorrow morning, and while I won’t say what it is, I can reveal that it’s among one of many reboots of famous horror franchises in recent years. Months ago, while planning upcoming reviews, I’d reached October 30th in my schedule, and realized that the 666th review fell exactly on Halloween – not being able to let that pass, I wondered what kind of “celebration” I could work in to mark the occasion. Some kind of horror film, I figured. Then I thought about doing an entire month of horror, and so November Nightmares came into being. As I said, it was purely coincidental, but now that we’re here, I’m thankful it turned out that way!

While my normal cinema fare tends to the blockbusters and other mainstream entries, the horror genre is quite dear to my heart for a lot of reasons. I, like most, don’t mind the visceral thrill of the hair standing up on the back of my neck, and I’ve been known to enjoy a good horror/slasher/gore film from time to time. I’m not what you’d call a die-hard horror fan, but I can appreciate the genre (far more than my wife does, at least!), so why not devote a month of the site to highlighting the best and worst the genre has to offer. Approaching November’s schedule, I decided to focus the majority of my time on more recent films, mainly because I’m more knowledgeable in this area than films of older vintage. I do have one or two “classic” horror films in my DVD collection, and have managed to pull at least one of them out of the dust to give it a watch, but for the most part, this event will see a number of post-Y2K films swing by for a bit of a look-see.

Who knows: if November Nightmares is successful, we might do it all again in 2014!

    1. The Brits might have invented Doctor Who, but it was us Aussies who invented time travel.

Oh, by the way. Tomorrow, don't ride the train. 😉
