Peter Yates - 1928-2011

My long awaited copy of Bullitt will get a special screening tonight. I received it yesterday in the mail, and now I learn of the passing of it’s director, Peter Yates. Yates was responsible for giving us one of Hollywood’s greatest car chases, with Steve McQueen hurtling through the streets of San Francisco, as well as other films including Murphys War, The Deep, Krull, the Oscar nominated Breaking Away, and 1999’s Curtain Call, among others.

Mr Yates passed away on Januray 9th. He was 82.

Never blessed with a body worthy of a porn star, nor being the heir to a wealthy industrialists fortune, nor suffering the tragedy of having his parents murdered outside a Gotham theater, Rodney is, contrary to popular opinion, neither Ron Jeremy, JD Rockefeller, or Batman.

As a serious appreciator of film since 1996, Rodney’s love affair with the medium has continued with his online blog, Fernby Films, a facility allowing him to communicate with fellow cineasts in their mutual love of all things movie.
