The Hobbit is Greenlit!!
In what is surely great news for Hobbits, Dwarves and Wizards everywhere, news broke yesterday that The Hobbit, the much (much much) anticipated prequel film series to The Lord Of The Rings, has been greenlit by Warner Bros and MGM Studios, and will commence filming in February. This report at the LA Times also indicates that the greenlight on The Hobbit will hopefully speed up the union issues which have plagued the production being done in New Zealand. The fine folks over at Time are also stating this morning that Peter Jackson is a lock to direct, which is even better news!!!
The first Hobbit film is scheduled for release in 3D in December 2012 (hopefully the world won’t have ended by then) and the second film the following year.
